About Mermaid Water & Plumbing

Thanks to Mermaid and this system we can live a normal water usage life! I wish I would have called them from the beginning!

"This is long but worth the read if you have a low yield or low recovery well. Great experience with Mermaid Water Systems, especially Randy, Adam, Brad, and Patrick.

I have a very low yield and low recovery (about 2 pints per minute) well. My old water filtration and softener system was put in by an “expert” in 2022. The way the system was set up, we could use about 8 gallons of water in the pressure tank before the well pump would come on, with a normal 2-5 gallon a minute well this would be fine. Due to the low storage capacity and very low recovery rate of my well we had to be very careful about water usage, especially on days when the filter and softener needed to backwash and regenerate. Even after the system was adjusted for short regenerations, the well ran dry several times. I finally said enough is enough and called Mermaid.

I worked with Randy and we found a product call the “Well Manager”. It is essentially a large tank with a computerized control panel. The system replaces a traditional pressure tank. The control panel runs the well pump on a timer based on the well recovery rate. There are safety mechanisms, such as flow and pressure detection, and electrical amperage monitoring, that will shut the well pump off if it begins to over pump the well. Essentially the system “sips” water from the well and deposits it in the tank whether you are using water in the house or not. It will do this until the tank is full. Currently it is set up so my well pump runs for 40 seconds every 28 minutes when the tank is not full. The settings are easily adjustable to balance water intake and pump cycles. When the house needs water, it is drawn from the tank by a constant pressure pump. There is a sediment filter before it goes into the tank (not a concern to have it between the well and tank since the pump is operated on a timer instead of a pressure switch). After the tank, the water goes to a kinetico filter and softening system, then through a UVC light to the faucets/appliances. I can actually do multiple loads of wash, run the dishwasher whenever, do everything concurrently if I want. The well manager continues to refill the tank by “sipping” from the well around the clock. It automatically shuts off when the tank is full. I’m amazed, it saved me from drilling a new well where results are not guaranteed, I could have had the same low yield and recovery issues.

"I can't understand why anyone uses Culligan. Mermaid put a whole house softener in my restaurant after my second water heater blew up from scale buildup. Culligan had a softener in here but every time I called them, a different person showed up, charged me"

"Solved my hard water problem in about 4 hours! The previous owner of the house installed a whole home filtration system, but it wasn't stopping the huge amount of chlorine or hardness from Spotsylvania County water. Nick, the installer, went over every section of the system to help me understand how it works, and how to maintain the system, which is minimal - open the lid, if the salt is low, add some more...simple. A small leak happened overnight and he was back the next day to fix it. I would definitely recommend Mermaid to my friends or anyone who is looking for a water-softening system."

"First and foremost I want to acknowledge the Exceptional customer service from Russ, an installer/repair guy at Mermaid Water. Due to some special requests I had for my installation, I had to have installers out here 3 times. Russ was here the first time and did a great job and was extremely professional and very easy to work with. The second guy that came out was ok but didn't do the job right. I requested Russ to come out and fix the issue from the previous guy and again, Russ did a great job. We have hard, acidic well water in our house and, as a result, have had numerous problems with our well and our water system (plus every appliance in our house that uses water). Our water stopped working last night--AGAIN--so we called Mermaid. They sent out a technician first thing this morning. He did a thorough check of our water system and found that the well pump is not working, so we will have to call another company for that service. Mermaid's technician, Nick, was knowledgeable and professional and explained each check he performed. He took a lot of time to diagnose the problem but did not charge a service fee since he wasn't able to correct the problem. Great service, would definitely recommend this company.
